That effin' play

This period we had to act in a play for our English project and we would show it to Miss Nora and then if it was ok or great, we would show it to little kids during English week. We had a lot of inconvenients during planning and executing the play. First problem: what play are we gonna do? Charlie and the chocolate factory was our first option. It was a great idea, it was funny, entertaining and the kids would love it, but not all of us liked the idea, they said it would be difficult getting costumes and blah blah. Willy Wonka was dismissed. Then someone said: "hey, we could do High School Musical" but that play was already taken :(. Then somebody, I don't really know who, suggested Grease, a really high school musical, and, a classical one. We all loved the idea but problem 2 was approaching. Mafer took the leadership, a genious thing to do beacuse nobody wanted to do it and she was the right one. We gathered in her house 3 days in a row to plan it. We needed to watch the movie, learn the coreography, distribute the roles, write the lines and learn them. Then, when the roles where already distributed we had to practice, practice and a whole lotta more practice. We had some troubles practicing because we did it in our long Día de Muertos weekend and NOBODY wanted to miss it, but we had to, so that was a huge, gigantic sacrifice. So the day of performing had arrived. We were all really nervous because we didn't know if it was going to be ok, but it was our time to act. We were really surprised when we saw the audience, we thought we were just performing for our teahcer, but hell no. We just got over the people and performed, not awesome but pretty great, and we were the only class to do it the day it was supposed to. We performed another 2 times and loved to, but I think that was enough, I don't need that rush of adrenaline and shame until next never, or semester. Our play went great, although the planning problems, the execution problems and everything that went wrong, but I liked it, I felt like we were a real group, all giving ideas and solutions, so, yeah, nice project.

What about this period project?

This time we had the chance to know more about disabled people rights doing research in some establishments to know about their work policies and facilities for handicaps. I did know that disabled people need some special care that not handicap people don't need but I didn't know that there's even an act that settles their rights to be treated as any other person. When I did my interviews in the Grand Hotel Acapulco, I got to know more about their treatment toward people with disabilities, as customers and as employees. Customers get special rooms calle "Handicaps" where they have some facilities like wider doors, handlebars in special areas, ramps, the classic elevators and even panic buttons. As for employees, they pretty much have the same treatment that any other worker, they have the same schedules, payment and work areas, but they do have like some tolerance, and the hotel hires physically disabled people and mentally disabled people too, as long as they can do their job, they have chances to be hire.

I liked the purpose of the project, that, I guess it was to understand a little bit more about disabled people situations, but the execution was kind of stressing, I know it was my fault because I always procrastinate and leave things for the last minute, but, hey!, now it's done, right?

Thanks miss Nora for this type of projects, they get me out of my everyday routine and teach me about important things that I do care, but not as much as everyone should.

Well, about this period, I liked it, it was different than previous english classes I've had, it wasn't boring at all and with this kind of projects I get to know more about my classmates without even asking, so, I liked it :D
The only thing I didn't like was that I had to used the computer everyday and I hate my crappy tech friend.
